Muqaddimat Ibn Khaldun (The Muqaddimah of Ibn Khaldun)
The Muqaddimah of Ibn Khaldun is one of the foremost works of historical and social thought. Abd al-Rahman ibn Khaldun wrote it as the introduction to his Kitab al-Ibar. In it he examines human civilization: how societies and states arise and develop, and the causes of their strength and decline. He also discusses group solidarity (asabiyya), nomadic and settled life, civilization, the economy, education and politics. The Muqaddimah stands out for its analytical approach to history and society: Ibn Khaldun sought to explain historical and social phenomena through their causes and laws, which made the book one of the most important early references for the study of society, civilization and history.
