Umayyad Dirham (Minted in Istakhr, 99 AH) – Reign of Sulayman ibn Abd al-Malik
<p>Istakhr, the historic capital of Fars, closes this part of the collection with a new issue of notable rarity in 99 AH, a witness to the closing days of Sulayman ibn Abd al-Malik's reign.</p><p>This very rare dirham was struck at this venerable Persian city, adding an important closing document to the province's monetary record during this transitional period.</p><p>The issue highlights Istakhr's historical value, which remained, right up to the end of this era, one of the leading mints of southern Fars.</p>
