Umayyad Dirham (Minted in Bizamqubadh, 94 AH) – Reign of al-Walid ibn Abd al-Malik

Bazmaqbadh survives today almost solely through scattered pieces like this one, left behind by its mint within the Ahwaz district network.

This dirham carries the burden of documenting a small city whose mint remained active for several consecutive years under Al-Walid ibn Abd al-Malik.

The coin's high numismatic value lies in preserving the name of an almost unknown city, saved only by the Umayyad administration's insistence on minting coinage at every administrative center, however small.
