Umayyad Dirham (Minted in Bizamqubadh, 91 AH) – Reign of al-Walid ibn Abd al-Malik

Bazmaqbadh belonged to the Ahwaz district network inherited from Sasanian administration, stretching between Basra and the lands of Fars.

This dirham documents a mint of limited output within that regional network under Al-Walid ibn Abd al-Malik; its extreme rarity today reflects the small scale of its issue.

It opens a window onto the fine administrative organization of minor districts, where subordinate mints held authority to strike coinage to the same standard, evidence that the reform reached far beyond the major capitals.
