Exceptionally Rare Umayyad Dirham (Minted in Ramhormuz, 79 AH) – Reign of Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan

Minted in Ramhormuz, a mountainous city in Khuzestan and the Caliphate’s gateway to the Zagros Mountains, this dirham documents the city's adherence to the new Islamic identity.

For the first time in this region, mints engraved Arabic inscriptions onto precious metal. This dirham illustrates cultural integration, as local Persian engravers executed the Damascus mandate, adapting their traditional craftsmanship to the new monotheistic template.

Functioning as an economic bridge between central Persia and the Levant, its extreme rarity derives from its isolated geographic origin. Today, it stands as material evidence of successful administrative integration within a distant province.
