Umayyad Dinar (Minted in 130 AH) – Reign of Marwan ibn Muhammad

Umayyad dinars identify themselves through the declaration of faith and the date of minting, and this gold dinar is dated 130 AH. It came fifty-three years after Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan's monetary reform of 77 AH, and gold kept to that course: Arabic writing on both faces in place of images.

That same year, Abu Muslim al-Khurasani entered Merv. Marwan ibn Muhammad, the last Umayyad caliph, held power and faced revolts across the empire.

Two years later, the state fell, so this dinar belongs to the years just before the end. It weighs 4.1 grams, and the Encyclopedia rates it Rare. It shows a monetary system that held its form while the world around it changed.
