Umayyad Dirham (Minted in al-Rayy, 128 AH) – Reign of Marwan ibn Muhammad
<p>Al-Rayy is an old city of Iran. Its mint struck Umayyad dirhams until 98 AH. Its dirhams reappeared in 128 AH in the hands of those who rose against the state. This one bears the verse from Surat al-Shura: "Say, I ask of you no reward for it except love for my kinsfolk." At 2.0 g, it is among the lightest pieces in this group. Striking by the rebels at Al-Rayy continued until 131 AH.</p>
