Umayyad Dirham (Minted in Balkh al-Bayda, 111 AH) – Reign of Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik

Balkh lies at the heart of old Khurasan and was one of the oldest cities of Central Asia, centuries before Islam. The name "White Balkh" appears beside it as a place linked to the city, possibly marking a distinct quarter within the same urban area.

The rarity of this dirham, struck in 111 AH under Hisham, reflects the small output of a mint on the Caliphate's far eastern edge.
