Umayyad Dirham (Minted in Damascus, 108 AH) – Reign of Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik

From the central mint in the capital, this dirham continues a long series of Damascus issues reaching back to Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan. While Al-Andalus and Armenia struck their own coinage that same year, Damascus remained the reference the rest of the state measured against.

Issued in 108 AH under Hisham, a caliph known for strict oversight of minting standards, it shows the capital holding its central role as the state grew.
