Umayyad Dirham (Minted in Damascus, 105 AH) – Reign of Yazid ibn Abd al-Malik

In the capital, the central mint kept supplying the state's silver, while distant mints such as Azerbaijan and Al-Andalus worked at the same time. Damascus remained the centre that tied these provinces together.

This dirham comes from the mint where the Arabisation of the coinage began more than a quarter-century earlier. Struck in 105 AH in the reign of Yazid ibn Abd al-Malik, it shows the capital's mint still setting the reference for the provinces.
